OCD

Just finished rearranging my studio. Got a very nice desk for the very nice price of zero, courtesy of some rich West Hollywood f*ck who probably got another really expensive desk. I'm sure I have OCD for this must be the third time in months I've totally rearranged the room.
In other news, my guitars just came back from the tech, and my they're playing beautifully. So if anyone out there needs a guitar tech, Dave Neely is the way to go. Thanks Dave! http://www.neelyguitars.com/

Well I'm off to the recording studio to lay down some more Shindai Lovers tracks. Lates.

Updates

Been doing web design for www.shindailovers.com and www.legal-x.com and every day is a learning experience. Check out the sites and let me know what you guys think. This morning I spent some time with my new Ibanez RG 570. I really love this guitar, and have become a die hard fan of the Floyd Rose Tremolo System. I dunno if it's because it was made in the 80's or if they're all like that, but I love it... the Paul Reed Smith is great too, but I'd rather use that for more bluesy and jazzy songs. Well, it's back to work for me. See ya.

Hey I'm back, was doing lots of Shindai Lovers stuff.

Whoa looks like I'm dusting the cobwebs off of this website. Blame Twitter for this, guys. Sometimes I feel like writing a novel and 160 characters just won't cut it. Lots of things have been going on in my world lately. Not only am I juggling a full-time partnership in a corporation, but as you all know, I'm building a fantastic and legendary band from the ground up. This is especially hard in the days where not many people have much talent and/or good taste in music and art. But fear not! Leave it to Shindai Lovers to bring back heart and soul to music.

I have also been trying my hand at web design working day and night on www.shindailovers.com. It's been quite an adventure as I have had to learn multiple methods to do everything in hopes of building a website that isn't cheeseball crap. Looks like I'm doing pretty ok. But as all you computer/web savvy types know, it ain't easy.

In the upcoming weeks, I will be venturing to Austin, TX to help my friend who was recently in a terrible accident setup his new bar on 6th street. I think it's really gonna be a blast. Hit me up on twitter, facebook, and on the band's new website. See ya guys soon on our tour.

What happens when life gets too busy?

My schedule is reaching new levels of impossible. Owning and operating a legal services corporation, trying to get a band off the ground, playing the game and living life isn't easy. But it is a hell of a lot of fun, and I wouldn't trade my life for anything.
I've been recording non stop with my band, Shindai Lovers. We just picked up a new drummer who is absolutely phenomenal. I'm trying to assemble all my gear for a summer mini tour. If any of you have ever toured, you know how fun that can be.
I've had too much coffee, and now it's time for the gym. I will keep you guys updated for clues to our secret show. See ya!

NBA game tonight.. I hate sports.

Hey guys... just a brief update before the hellish journey to Stapes Center. You all know I hate most sports but tonight is a different story.. private premiere level box seats at the Clippers. In the music world it's been night and day in the studio getting the Shindai Lovers record ready to roll. So anyways... I'm out the door. Wish me luck.

Government Offices/Summer of Fun

Well ladies and gentlemen, if you have ever been in a government office in California.. well I'm sorry. Today I had to take a friend to the Social Security office, it was my first time, and hopefully last. I can't remember disappointment like that since I didn't get that BB gun I wanted for Christmas, lol, but seriously avoid that place at all costs.
After that, I had a meeting with a friend who spent years in the radio industry regarding a possible new internet radio show. I can't say much about it now but it's looking very promising. We need more broadcast without the commercialism and regulation by Clear Channel and the FCC. I will keep you guys updated as I find out more.
Later tonight, I will be going into the studio to do some more recording for Shindai Lovers. It's going so very well. This year will be a great year for music as there are a number of great 80's and 90's bands making a comeback. Speaking of which, I can't wait to see two of my favorite bands, Jane's Addiction and Nine Inch Nails, play together this summer. What a treat, and an inspiration.
Gonna go running, finish dinner, then the studio. Keep it real.

Music and Law

Hey guys, I thought I would drop a line to let everyone know how things are going on my end over here. First off, what the hell is going on with music nowadays... we have musicians forming power pop bands and going to the charts in a weeks time, but yet if you're out to bring great music and talent to the scene, your hopes of a chart topping hit are pretty slim. Same with movies... what happened to actual creativity. Let's count how many remakes there have been in the past two years.. and even WORSE... remakes of great movies that just turn into a badly made Michael Bay flick. Sickening if you ask me. Anyway!, I spent last night in the studio with Shindai Lovers working through the songs and really going "detail oriented" on them. I must say things went very very well and it's looking like it will be a legendary band and album. Today, I have been locked into my Legal-X stuff, whoever thought a business partner was so invaluable.. till they go out of town for a month. Yikes! We're pulling into the final stretch of the work day, then it's off to my daily run. Keep it real folks.

Where does the time go?

This week has been long, but eventful. Nathyn and I have been in the studio recording guitar and vocal dubs for the album. It's great to be able to say things are really starting to shape up, and they are... but we are missing two key elements from the band. Our drummer and bass player have decided to leave us due to other commitments, nothing negative. So now, the search begins for a dedicated percussionist and bass player who are willing to dedicate time to the studio, and later touring.
Besides putting together a band, writing music, and marketing it... (if you didn't know) I run a Legal Support Services corporation in Los Angeles. My boss has been out of town for two days and you know what that means... I am at the controls. Well I will tell you this, I haven't had one night yet free of nightmares.. I think it's the stress getting to me. Anyhow, it sure beats not having anything to do and wasting wonderful life away.
If you want a little sneak peak into the life of Nathyn Knott, the vocalist of Shindai Lovers, you can check out his myspace. Pretty neat guy. www.myspace.com/nathynknott

Cheers,
Dave

Shindai Lovers- Recording in Los Angeles

Hey all, I'd like to introduce myself to everyone out there.  My name is David Francis-Herrera and I am the half of the band Shindai Lovers.  I really hope to get the ball rolling on this blog and really keep everyone updated on our adventures.  We have been recording around Los Angeles and thing's are really going well.   We haven't taken the usual route that sometimes ends with over polished super produced music.  We have stayed true to our love of guerilla style music making and along with that... films.  We have decided to tie movies in with our music to give people something that you really can't get anywhere else.  This pretty much guarantees MTV and pretty much all the major labels won't be interested... but actually.... we aren't in the mood to get F#%#ed anyway.  Well this was our first shot at blogging... please stay tuned as their will be many more updates from here on out.
